Introduction:
Most of the databases listed in this chapter are available online or on cd-rom. Local loading is where a database is made available directly on a local system while not residing on cd-rom. The advantages are it allows local users to search without connection charges and lets the local organization pick what search software they will use. I have seen several of the databases mentioned here made available for searching using the same software as used for an online library catalog. I do not have any information on which database work with which library systems. Contact the vendors for that information.

Vendors
The biggest and most prolific vendor here appears to be CAB International. They have made many subsets of CAB Abstracts available. They clearly dominate this part of the field. Because of the wide availbility of cd-roms, this type of product may eventually vanish.
